ABOUT

Quaxes Games is a collection of nine browser games built by Jose Chan, a software engineer based in Boston. Every game on this site is a single hand-written HTML file — no frameworks, no build step, no backend, no dependencies you have to trust or maintain.

The whole thing started as a constraint exercise. The question was: how complete can a game actually feel if you strip away every tool you'd normally reach for? The answer turned out to be surprisingly complete. Each game here has at least a few quality-of-life features — undo in 2048, Dual Mode in Minesweeper, seven game modes in BLOCKS, pencil notes and smart hints in Sudoku — that you wouldn't necessarily expect from something written without a library in sight.

Speed was part of the appeal too. A single file opens instantly. There's nothing to install, nothing to update, no loading state to spin through. You click the link and the game is there. That constraint forces a kind of discipline that frameworks tend to let you skip.

Your data stays on your device. Scores, preferences, and any game state are saved in your browser's localStorage and never transmitted anywhere. There are no accounts, no logins, and no server-side tracking. The games are free to play — game and guide pages may show a banner ad from Google AdSense to cover domain costs, but that's the extent of it.
